What is 10:10?

10:10 logo

10:10 is an ambitious project to unite every sector of British society behind one simple idea: that by working together we can achieve a 10% cut in the UK’s carbon emissions in 2010.

Cutting 10% in one year is a bold target, but for most of us it’s an achievable one, and is in line with what scientists say we need over the next 18 months.

To find out more about the national campaign please visit – www.1010uk.org.

Why are we involved?

We're a very green thinking council and we've made huge steps to reducing our emissions already – more than 10% over the last 3 years. We’re totally committed to protecting our environment, so although it will be tough, we think we can save another 10% in 2010.

We hope to make the reductions by supporting our contractor Freedom Leisure to make even further gas and electricity reductions at K2 Crawley; install powerPerfectors (voltage optimisation technology) at Tilgate Nature Centre and Maidenbower Community Centre; and use LED lighting in our multi-storey car park.

Our Amenity Service division will continue to reduce fuel use from the council's vehicle fleet and the Environment Unit will keep reviewing and developing our Climate Change Strategy as well as supporting local businesses to achieve similar carbon reductions.

How can you get involved?

You, your business or school can sign up to the 10:10 campaign by visiting the website, www.1010uk.org.

Helping you along the way…

If your business needs some assistance in reducing its carbon emissions as part of the 10:10 campaign the council offers a FREE service to help you along the way.

The Green Business Programme will come to your business for a free and confidential site visit to assess its impact on the environment by looking at water and electricity usage, travel and waste produced. A free report is then written, tailored specifically to your business which makes recommendations for changes that you can make that will ultimately save your business money, reduce its impact on the environment, boost your green credentials and improve your efficiency.

Please visit the Green Business Programme web page to find out more and to request a site visit.
