Trees for St Catherine's

You can help to raise vital funds to support your local hospice, as well as improving the environment by adopting or donating a tree.

Why trees?

Adopt a Tree

You have the choice to adopt any specimen tree in Tilgate Park, or one of the Champion Trees featured in the St Catherine's Tree Trail leaflet. You may have a favourite tree in Tilgate Park, or one that has special meaning to you or a loved one.

Any specimen tree can be adopted for £100. Champion trees featured in the leaflet will cost £200.

Donate a Tree

The Trees for St Catherine's scheme allows people to donate trees to be planted throughout the borough on council-owned land. 20% of your donation will go towards the purchase of trees. The remainder will go directly towards patient care at St Catherine's.

What Happens

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have a tree planted anywhere in Crawley?

Yes, as long as it is on council property and is a suitable location for a tree. If the location you want is not suitable, we will suggest alternative sites.

If the tree I adopt needs to be taken down for any reason, do I get my money back?

Unfortunately not, but we will allocate a replacement tree or other similar tree to you.

Can I have a plaque under the tree?

No, experience has shown that plaques can attract vandalism and they can turn the tree into a shrine, which is undesirable in a park.

If I am not sure what species of tree would be suitable, is advice available?

Yes, the tree experts at Crawley Borough Council will be more than happy to help you.

What happens if the tree I donate dies or gets vandalised?

The tree will normally be replaced the following year at no cost to you.

Can I adopt any tree in Tilgate Park?

Yes, take your pick, as long as the tree has not already been adopted!

Can I adopt a tree elsewhere in the borough?

Not yet, although similar schemes are planned for Worth Park, Broadfield Park and Goffs Park in future.
