Our council is an ambitious and exciting place to work. We want to continue to be a high performing council with motivated employees who are proud to work here and make a difference to people’s lives. We need to use our resources wisely to become known as an Employer of Choice where we draw on and develop the talent and skills we have in the organisation to be even better than we are in everything that we do.
Crawley Borough Council won the Employee Benefits Award 2009 for Absence Management and Employee Wellbeing Policy. The council has introduced a range of new ideas, as well as using good-practice, policies and absence monitoring schemes.
Crawley Borough Council has been judged one the best councils in Britain to work for in the Sunday Time ‘Best Companies’ Survey. In 2007 we were placed 11th out of 67 short listed authorities and 470 councils nationally. In 2010 the Best Companies accreditation award scheme placed the council 40th overall and we were the 6th highest placed council.
Best Companies established the award scheme to acknowledge excellence in the workplace. Based on staff feedback, it looks at employee engagement as an integral part of a company’s success and growth and sets a benchmark for other employers.
In addition we were runners up in two special awards, “Giving Something Back” and “Wellbeing”. These are positive achievements and recognise all our hard work in making the council a successful and enjoyable place to work.

Crawley Borough Council believes in equality of opportunity and freedom from discrimination for all its current and potential employees and strives to be a leader in the provision of this basic right.
The council is an accredited member of the Two Ticks Disability Symbol, this is awarded to the council by the Jobcentre Plus in recognition of it’s commitment to meet five criteria regarding the employment, retention, training and career development of disabled employees.
The council is positive about employing people with disabilities and will take all reasonable steps to meet any special requirements individuals invited to interview may have.
The Age Positive campaign, from the Department for Work and Pensions in the UK, promotes the benefits of an age diverse workforce. Traditional retirement practices may lead to the loss of valuable skills and the expertise of older workers.
By using flexible working options the council is able to retain those skills. Crawley Borough Council supports Age Positive and the council’s good practice in this area has been acknowledged by them.
