Historic Buildings

For what was originally group of small villages, Crawley has retained a wealth of interesting and historic buildings.

There were several large estates around the villages of Crawley, Worth and Ifield, and some of the mansions can still be seen, as well as a wealth of churches, including the oldest – St Nicholas Church In Worth. A walk down the High Street still gives a glimpse of Crawley in days gone by, when up to sixty coaches a day passed through the High Street on their way to ‘Brightelmstone’, newly discovered by the Prince Regent. Many of the existing medieval homes and farm buildings became inns, restaurants and tea rooms to cope with the trade, and most remain to this day.
