The Government has introduced a new planning system which replaces the Local Plan with a Local Development Framework. Crawley’s Local Development Framework reflects the spatial needs of the Community Strategy and helps address the key issues facing the town.
The new Local Development Framework (LDF) is made up of a number of documents which will guide the development of the town up to 2018. These are:
• Core Strategy – sets out the spatial vision, objectives and policies for managing development across Crawley. Key themes include transport, housing, economy, the environment and sustainability.
• Proposals Map – the spatial interpretation of policies within Development Plan Documents and ‘Saved’ policies of the adopted Local Plan.
• Sustainability Assessment (SA) – appraising the approaches outlined in the Core Strategy, and attempting to balance environmental, social and economic issues.
• Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) – sets how the community and stakeholders will be involved in the development of Local Development Documents and stages of the planning process.
• Local Development Scheme (LDS) – setting out the timetabling for the development of the series of documents within the Local Development Framework for the next 3 years
• Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD’s) - a variety of SPD’s will also be prepared to provide more detailed guidance on either topic areas, such as High Density Housing, or a specific site, such as the site for the Town Centre redevelopment.
• Annual Monitoring Report (AMR) - The AMR outlines information relating to the implementation of the Local Development Scheme and the extent to which policies of Local Development Documents are being achieved.
