Crawley Borough Council can collect your unwanted furniture and other bulky items, white and electrical goods from your home.
If you require a bulky waste collection please phone 01293 438772 or come into the Town Hall. We accept all major credit and debit cards.
We will collect furniture (e.g. beds, chairs, wardrobes and tables) and other bulky items.
The minimum charge for collection is £24. The exact charge will depend on the size / volume of the items requiring collection. To find out how much your collection is likely to cost, please call our Contact Centre on 01293 438772.
The Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive requires all electrical equipment, no matter what size, to be collected, treated, and disposed of separately. As a result a separate charge is made for each item collected.
We will collect unwanted kitchen appliances (e.g. fridges, freezers, cookers and washing machines) and electronic equipment (e.g. TVs, Computer VDUs, microwaves).
Standard charge for collection: £26.50 per appliance (for anything that is equal to or larger than the size of a microwave or small TV).
Items must be outside, accessible and ready for collection by 7.30am on the date agreed at the time of booking.
Earth, paving slabs, bricks, concrete, asbestos, sheds, greenhouses, garage doors, hardcore, porcelain or metal baths, stair lifts, fencing, sun beds, car parts, engines or gas cylinders. This is because of either their complex disposal, hazardous nature making them dangerous to transport without the correct equipment, or because they are too heavy to safely move with the resources we have. In these cases you will have to have them collected by a specialist commercial waste company.
Plasterboard (and other gypsum containing wastes) can not be accepted for disposal through the bulky waste collection service. Residents can take it to the Crawley Household Waste Recycling Site which has a dedicated container.
Plasterboard is classed as a construction and demolition waste and therefore a limit of 200kg per visit will apply. If you have large quantities of this type of material to dispose of then you will need to make arrangements to dispose of the waste yourself.
This service is not available for business use or for house clearance collections of more than 10 items.
What you are charged for a bulky waste collection is based upon what we have to pay our contractor and so our charges are very competitive with other private waste collection companies.
Refunds can only be given if you contact us at least the day before your collection is due or the council or it’s contractor are at fault.
Residents who are receiving benefits - (unemployed – ES40 holder, Income Support, Housing Benefit and Working Tax Credit) - qualify for one free collection of bulky household waste or white and electrical equipment per rolling year. This one free collection is limited according to the size and number of items requiring collection up to a maximum amount of £38.00.
Please note, customers in receipt of incapacity benefits and family tax credits are excluded from receiving a free bulky waste collection.
We must always make a charge (regardless of income status) for fire damaged goods, baths (plastic only), sinks, toilets, kitchen units and radiators.
You are under no obligation to use the bulky waste collection service the council provides after receiving the quote. You can transport your own items to the Crawley Household Waste Recycling Site and dispose of them free of charge. Please note if you intend to transport bulky items to this site using your own or hired van, as opposed to a car, refer to the User Guidelines first.
Alternatively you can use a private contractor to collect and dispose of unwanted items ensuring the contractor is a Registered Waste Carrier first.
