Code of Conduct

Advice to cyclists using shared paths:
  • Be considerate of pedestrians, especially the elderly, infirm or partially sighted. Always use your bell, or say excuse me - many people are hard of hearing, so don't assume they have heard you.
  • Be polite and courteous. Thank them if they have moved over for you.
  • Always be prepared to slow down when approaching pedestrians and and stop if necessary.
  • Keep as much room as possible between yourself and pedestrians - try not to squeeze past. Keep to your side where there is a white line dividing the path.
  • Be especially cautious at blind spots, such as junctions. Don't ride into problems you can't see.
  • Use your lights when there is poor visibility, such as fog.
Advice to pedestrians
  • When using shared and segregated paths, keep to your side of the path and keep dogs under control.
  • Please clear up all dog mess and place in bins provided.
Advice to drivers
  • Cyclists have the same rights on the road - give them ample room at all times.
  • Give particular attention to cyclists at junctions.
  • Do not park in cycle lanes - you could be putting a cyclist in a dangerous situation.
