On 3 April 2013 members of Crawley Borough Council resolved to designate five areas as new Conservation Areas due to their “special architectural and historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance”. This included three areas in Southgate.
The boundaries of these designations were established after research, consultation and community involvement. However, during this process there were requests made for additional areas also to be designated as conservation areas. Therefore, further assessment and consultation was undertaken, the additional areas are:
The further assessment has now been completed, and consultation concluded on 25 October 2013. A consultation report and character assessments of the proposed areas have now been produced. To view these documents please click on the links below:
A report has now been prepared on these two proposed areas. This report will be discussed at the Overview and Scrutiny Commission on 2 December 2013 before a decision is made at Cabinet on 4 December 2013. If the Cabinet decides to designate these areas on 4 December, the designation will come into affect immediately.
