Dyers Almhouses Conservation Area

The Dyers Company Almshouses lie adjacent to the north side of a residential cul-de-sac within the residential neighbourhood of Northgate. To the south, beyond the residential road, is the Town Centre and to the east is the Territorial Army Centre car park, which is allocated in Local Plan for residential development. To the west are offices and their associated car parks. These offices front onto the northern end of the High Street.

Dyers Almshouses

The area was designated in 1996 to protect the distinctive character and appearance of the Almshouses and their landscaped trees and gardens, and to ensure that any nearby development proposals are of a scale, form, and design that respects the character and setting of the Almshouses.

The Conservation Area Statement was revised in 1998 and provides a character appraisal for the area and guidance that should be followed when any development takes place. You can view the Conservation Area Statement by clicking on the link below.

Conservation Area advice

We have Planning Officers designated to look after every Conservation Area. Anthony Masson is the Planning Officer responsible for the High Street Conservation Area and also attends the meetings of the Conservation Area Advisory Committee offering advice, guidance, and support. Conservation Area Advisory Committee (CAAC)

The 4C’s (Central Crawley CAAC) provides comments on planning applications that are submitted within Dyers Almshouses Conservation Area, High Street Conservation Area, St Peters Conservation Area, and the Sunnymead Flats Conservation Area.
