New guidance from Government on demolition of non residential buildings
From 31 March 2011 prior approval is now also required for the demolition of a listed building, a building in a conservation area, a building which is a scheduled ancient monument or a building that is not a dwelling house or adjoining a dwelling house unless demolition is covered under another application (planning, listed building consent or conservation area consent).
Planning application for the new neighbourhood, west of Bewbush (April 11)
The planning application for the new neighbourhood, (to be marketed by the developer as ‘Kilnwood Vale’) was granted planning permission, subject to the completion of a legal agreement by the Horsham District Council Development Committee North on 15 March.

North East Sector - Current Situation (Feb 11)
Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities, allowed the North East Sector appeal on 16 February, 2011 and granted, subject to conditions, the outline planning permission for the development.
The North East Sector will comprise 1,900 homes, 5,000 square metres of office and industrial floor space, 2,500 square metres of retail activity, open space, a new primary school, a community hall and the relocation of an overhead power line.

Public consultation on Betts Way Development Principles Statement (DPS)
We want Manor Royal to continue to thrive as a successful and sustainable business location which is why we created a Masterplan for the area. Following on from the Masterplan we are currently seeking your views on a planning document that will guide redevelopment of an important site in the Manor Royal Business District known as Betts Way. This document will influence the type of development to ensure it delivers the objectives of the Masterplan.

Consultation on Revised Supplementary Planning Document for Town Centre North
Town Centre North is a major retail-led mixed-use development that will bring new shops and facilities to Crawley. It is fundamental to the council’s strategy for the growth and enhancement of the whole town centre. The national economic downturn has slowed progress in bringing forward the Town Centre North scheme, though recent work has confirmed that redevelopment along The Boulevard could still happen, and major development companies remain interested in investing in the town.
To assist in the delivery of Town Centre North in a difficult economic climate, the council is revising its adopted Town Centre North Supplementary Planning Document, which sets out the key principles that will guide the development. In particular, the revised document provides more flexibility, allowing the development to come forward in separate phases that will each contribute to the overall improvement of the town centre. Residential Street Scene and Parking Improvements Programme
West Sussex County Council has statutory responsibility for highways. However, the Forward Planning team is responsible for the delivery of the Residential Environmental Improvement Programme which was approved at the March 2012 Cabinet. The programme includes a priority list of schemes which represent the most severe parking problems in the borough that would benefit from increased parking provision, improved circulation/access and enhancement and protection of the street scene.

Following a three week residents’ consultation in Dec/Jan 2012/13 Councillor Trussell, as Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, approved the proposed schemes under delegated powers. Authorisation is given to undertake detailed design and tender preparation and obtain all consents and agreements necessary for the schemes’ implementation. Following this, approval to start on site will be sought from Cabinet under delegated powers.
