Crawley Council cuts more carbon

ENERGY consumption at the Town Hall has fallen for another year through Crawley Council’s continued efforts to cut carbon emissions.

Overall energy consumption fell by a whopping 22.3 per cent in 2011/12 saving £19,300 a year and 116,000 kg of CO2.

A new heating and cooling system at the Town Hall helped with big reductions in gas use but eco-minded council staff also managed to reduce electricity consumption for yet another year too.

Councillor Ken Trussell, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services said: “Crawley Council is still geared up to its carbon cutting challenge following our successful participation in the international 10:10 campaign.

“Our aim is to reduce the council’s emissions by at least 20 per cent by 2015 and become carbon neutral by 2050. We’ve been doing brilliantly over the years so I’m confident we can make it.”

Since 2008/9 electricity consumption at the Town Hall has fallen by169,321 kw/h and gas use has dropped by 330,001 kw/h.
