Queen's Diamond Jubilee 2012 was an exciting year, with the Olympics coming to the UK and Queen Elizabeth celebrating her Diamond Jubilee. Featured below are several ways Crawley celebrated in 2012.

Crawley LIVE – ‘Best of British’ three day music festival 1, 2, 3, June

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was celebrated in style at the Crawley LIVE three-day music festival at Southgate Playing Fields, Crawley.

The festivities kicked off on Friday night with ‘Crawley Revival - a trip back in time with music from the Blunter Brothers and Boogie Wonderland’. Saturday celebrated the ‘Best of British’ with music from some of the finest local bands followed by the headline acts - Queen Rhapsody and Lee Pashley as Robbie Williams.

On Sunday, Crawley Borough Council hosted a ‘ Big Jubilee Lunch ’ - a FREE family friendly afternoon with children’s activities and music from local acts.

Jubilee Beacon

On Monday 4 June 2012 a network of over 4000 Beacons were lit throughout the United Kingdom to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Crawley was proud to take part in the event, with a beacon being lit by the Mayor of Crawley at Tilgate Park.

The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, operated by Fields in Trust , is a new campaign to protect 2012 outdoor recreational spaces in communities all across the country as a permanent living legacy of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Six outdoor spaces in Crawley were chosen to become part of the scheme – one for each decade of the Queen’s reign. Find out more about the spaces by following the links below.

All of these spaces contain a mixture of open space, trees, rivers and ponds and are great places for wildlife and nature. The council hope they will become just as important to the local community as some of our better known parks like Tilgate and Goffs Park.
