Location: Tilgate Park, Walled Gardens
Suitability: All Ages
Start date: 11/11/2018
Event Times: All day
Description: The public is invited to Tilgate Park for a day of commemoration for the centenary of the end of WW1.
The day begins at 10.45am with the Armistice service at The Walled Garden Cafe, with readings to honour the fallen from all wars and a bugler echoing the sound of The Last Post. We'll then join the nation by observing two minutes' silence at 11am.
Throughout the day, visitors can view a memorial mural, the handmade poppy display in the maze and remember the fallen in a moving presentation in the welcome room with some artefacts from the war also on display.
The day continues at 5pm with Beacons of Light in the Barn and performances by The Hawth Youth Theatre and live musical entertainment from The Spinettes (vintage trio), followed by a procession led by the Mayor of Crawley, Councillor Carlos Castro, to light the beacon in the main car park. A video to the fallen will also be playing in the Barn throughout the afternoon and early evening. It will show the final resting places of local soldiers who lost their lives in The Great War.
The Barn has limited space. If we are unable to accommodate everyone for the Beacons of Light event, there is an opportunity to join the procession from outside the Walled Garden to the beacon.
