'Art on the Greenway' is a project designed to provide walkers on the Town's Green walkway with points of interest on route.
With assistance from Arts Council Lottery awards, we now have six installations along the Greenway. Each is very different.
Lion – Tilgate Park
Artist, Christian Funnell's 'Lion' was one of the
first Art in the Greenway projects and provides
a startling but hopefully not too frightening
waymark in Tilgate Park.

Swans Landing – Bewbush Millpond
David Norris's 'Swans Landing' depicts a gathering of stainless steel swans landing
on the waters of the Bewbush Millpond.
"The Water Gardens are an oasis in the
middle of town. I wanted to do something
which would be beautiful in the setting”
Dipping Platform - Broadfield
A practical carved wooden work comprising seat and dipping platform has been installed at Target Hill, Broadfield by artist Nigel Hobbins.
The platform is intended to be used by the environmental trust The Gatwick Greenspace project on their schools field trips.
Conduit & Continuum – Tilgate Park
Will Glanfield’s Conduit & Continuum is located in Tilgate Park. Conduit is a sculpture composed of five standing elements. A bench (Continuum) is located 100 metres away across the parkland Visitors to the park can sit on the bench and look across through the Conduit.
These pieces are inspired by thoughts on continuity, evolution and aspiration in nature. The leaves carved into the work celebrate five native trees: Common Oak, Hawthorne, Goat Willow, Alder and Scots Pine.
The Clouds are High and the Sky is Wide – Pound Hill
The Clouds are High and the Sky is wide is
inspired by a line from a Hilaire Belloc poem.
Artist Kate Munro created the three stretching
figures from 'bronzed' fibreglass resin mounted
on oak trunks, which turn gently towards the wind.
This piece provides a focal point where the
Greenway is crossed by Balcombe Road,
in Pound Hill.
Subway Mural - Broadfield
David Watson's mural project can be seen on Southgate Avenue underpass near Broadfield Stadium.
