New employees automatically become a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) unless they opt out. Both employees and the council make contributions to the scheme.
If an Employee has a personal pension they do not have to remain in the LGPS. Employees may only contribute to one scheme and the council will not make any contributions to a personal pension plan.
We support our employees with learning and development. We encourage them to gain the skills and experience to achieve their full potential.
The normal hours of work are 37 hours per week, unless otherwise detailed. Most employees are able to work flexible hours. We offer a range of options to help balance the needs of our service with social, family and caring responsibilities.
Annual leave is dependent on salary scale and length of service in local government. Employees are also entitled to bank holidays and an extended break between Christmas and New Year (subject to service requirements).
Subsidised rates are on offer to employees in the council’s car parks. In addition, a salary sacrifice arrangement is in place which offers further savings.
To promote healthier journeys to work and sustainable transport methods we operate a Cyclescheme. This allows employees to save money on a new bike and spread the cost.
A childcare voucher salary sacrifice arrangement is available to assist employees with the cost of childcare.
The council operates a voluntary benefits scheme. This allows employees to receive discounts and earn cash back at hundreds of retailers.
Permanent employees can take advantage of the council’s loan schemes for cars, bicycles and travel season tickets.
In approved cases, some financial assistance is available to newly appointed, permanent employees who live more than 25 miles outside of Crawley and move to live nearer.
