Crawley Borough Council made the decision in April 2002 to move away from providing new homes through building (and paying for) them itself. It accepted that it was more cost effective to provide new affordable housing through grants or subsidised land to Housing Associations.
We currently work in partnership with seven Housing Associations development partners to provide new housing.
These Housing Associations were selected because of their development and management expertise. The list of 'preferred partners' is reviewed every 3 years.
Housing Associations own and manage approximately 1,800 homes in Crawley, providing a range of homes for rent and affordable home ownership (e.g. shared ownership), including some properties for those with special needs.
All new homes for rent being built by our partner Housing Associations are available to people on the Housing Register.
