Key Worker Housing

There are a number of ways that key workers can gain access to affordable housing in Crawley.

Moat Housing Group has funding to help key workers across Sussex make that first step on the property ladder through the government’s Key Worker Living scheme.

Key workers eligible for the scheme are; NHS staff (clinical only), teachers (including further education), prison officers (Lewes Prison), probation officers, social workers, occupational therapists and educational psychologists.

Available options via the scheme include:

• Key Worker Homebuy – an interest free equity loan that enables key workers to purchase an equity share in a home bought on the open market. The remainder is funded by the Key Worker Homebuy scheme on an interest-free basis.
• Intermediate renting on new build properties – homes are rented at 20% below market levels.
• Shared ownership – purchase a share of a new home with a subsidised rent payable on the remaining share

Crawley Borough Council is a member of the Key Worker Alliance with West Sussex County Council, Horsham and Mid Sussex District Councils and a variety of other partner organisations. The Alliance is intended to promote key worker housing issues locally and share good practice.

Key Workers are also eligible to join the Combined Housing Register.
