Crawley’s 37 councillors, meeting together as the Council, are responsible for making decisions on the most important issues like deciding the overall policies and setting the borough council element of the Council Tax.
The Council appoints a Cabinet for most of the day-to-day decisions affecting Council services. Decisions in more specialised areas are taken at committees like Development Control and Licensing.
More information on all committees is in the menu on the right.
There is also an Overview and Scrutiny Commission which looks into matters of local concern and makes recommendations to the Cabinet and Full Council on the budget, policy and service delivery. The Commission does not have decision making powers itself.
The committees meet on a 9 week cycle ending in a meeting of the Full Council.
During this 9-week period the Council’s Cabinet meets twice and Development Control meet three times. The Licensing Sub-Committee meets as and when necessary.
You can view committee agendas and minutes online. Other useful information about committees is in the related pages section.
