Local Economy Action Group

One pence piece

The Local Economy Action Group (LEAG) is a local Crawley level strategic group of public and private sector partners committed to working together to provide strategic advice and direction in order to improve the economic performance of the town.

Formed in 2002 after the first community strategy

The LEAG was formed shortly after the publication of the town’s first Community Strategy in 2002, the LEAG is part of the town-wide Local Strategic Partnership called Crawley Together – the partnership responsible for the community strategy. The vision for Crawley described in the community strategy is:

“Crawley will be a friendly, prosperous, forward-looking and enjoyable town – a place where people want to live, work and visit.”

A role to inform, advice, advocate and provide oversight

The LEAG is concerned with matters relating to the growth, success and development of Crawley’s economy. The purpose of the LEAG is to:

In particular, the LEAG has a key role in the development and oversight of the borough council’s economic business plan and to support its delivery. In this context, the LEAG provides a cross sector scrutiny function to ensure the actions of the council properly reflect the importance of business and economic success in the success of the town.

Crawley's Economic Plan (2011-16)

Crawley's Economic Plan (2011-16) In support of prosperity, sets out the council’s vision, role and purpose. It’s designed to be a short-term plan with a range of priority areas and activities which the council has a role in delivering. The council is committed to supporting the economy and the plan is focussed on the next few critical years.

The Local Economic Action Group has been a key partner in the development of the plan, letting the council know what’s important to the Crawley business community and will continue to play an active role as a critical friend to the council and provide oversight to support the delivery of the plan.
