The Freedom of Information Act 2000
deals with access to all types of information held by public authorities. Individuals already have the right of access to information about themselves under the Data Protection Act 1998.
The Act requires every public authority to:
Our Publication Scheme provides direct access to information held by the council. Before you think about a Freedom of Information request, have a look at the publication scheme, as it may already contain the information you need.
It is organised into 7 categories, these are:

2. What we spend and how we spend it
3. What our priorities are and how we are doing
4. How we make decisions
5. Our policies and procedures
6. Lists and Registers
7. The Services we offer
Under each category are lists of information and where possible these will be linked directly to the information on this website. Where the information is not available online we tell you how you can access it.
The Publication Scheme is a ‘living’ document and will be reviewed on a regular basis with new material being added as it becomes available.
We want to make as much information as possible available free of charge, however some publications have a cover charge. Printing and photocopying costs may apply for certain items.
Freedom of Information Requests
Public authorities have to respond to specific individual requests for information within 20 working days, unless the information is available elsewhere, (e.g. included in the Publication Scheme ), or an exemption under the Act applies.

The request should:
You may, if you wish, use the Council’s application form to make a request. See Related Documents to the right.
If you are requesting information, in some cases a fee may be charged. Click on the link for more on fees.
We welcome any comments or questions you have on the Publication Scheme; how useful you found it, whether it was clearly set out, and if you found it easy to find the information you were after.
You can also tell us if there is any information that is not in the scheme which you feel should be.
